DRABBLE A
GOING ROGUE Whirling like a dervish, his eyes rolled upward into his forehead. Achieving a trance-like state was customary before embarking on an epic, bipedal journey. He was going rogue, abandoning his nomadic tribe for city life in Istanbul, where his soul was captured by a beguiling Turkish tigress. The tribesman’s plans turned sideways, however, when Oscar—a bastard thrill-seeker from Texas—appeared in a gleaming yellow Cadillac. “Get in, motherfucker!” Our tribesman refused, deathly afraid of automobiles. But Oscar was persistent and terribly charismatic. Off they went, an odd pair, blazing through Turkey on a surreal road trip for the ages. by Laszlo Pentagram |
DRABBLE B - WINNER
VAUDEVILLE The dad woke the son. “We’re going on a trip.” “What’s in the box?” “Nothing.” On the long drive to Kansas City, the dad taught the son about being funny. He taught him about vaudeville. He told him about his mom. “She left us for another performer: Boris Rosen.” By the time they reached Kansas City, the son knew what funny was. The dad parked and they climbed four flights of wooden stairs. The dad knocked. The door opened. The dad pulled a pie from the box. Boris took a pie to the face. “That,” the son said, “was funny.” by Mr. Medusa |
